Osaka Kasu Udon Big Cup

We love everything Osaka. And if we can get our hands on some tasty products from our home turf, we’re more than happy to deliver them to you! Osaka gourmet "Kasu Udon" is now available in a cup and prepared under the supervision of the specialty store "KASUYA"!

"Kasu udon" is a local udon that is popular mainly in Osaka. The “Kasu” here, is short for “aburakasu”, which is the name of a type of beef intestines, deep-fried in a local variant of lard and then served atop the udon soup. Wait, don’t run away! It’s more tasty than it sounds, I promise.

The story goes deeper. “Kasu” is also commonly used to talk about “leftovers”. This goes back to decades ago, when the dish was created at a time when Osaka’s poorer classes didn’t have much food available. So they went for “horumon” (ホルモン, innards) based dishes to make sure no part of the limited available livestock was wasted.

"KASUYA" is a chain store centered around Osaka that opened its current main store "KASUYA Fujiidera Main Store" (Fujiidera City, Osaka Prefecture) in April 1995.

This cup serves a large portion of fried udon with a strong taste of wheat. The noodles have a smooth and supple texture and are easy to eat. The soup is characterized by the fragrant scent of this brewed dark soy sauce, and is finished in a rich flavor that combines the gentle taste of kelp and bonito with beef. The dish is finished with some fried balls with dregs, kamaboko, green onions, and tororo kelp.

Kuroi Buta Curry Yakisoba

Allergies include: Wheat Egg Dairy Soy Pork

Cooking Time: 3 minutes
Kuroi Buta Curry Yakisoba

This cup has been released frequently and repeatedly by Toyo Suisan. Why? Everyone loves it. Yakisoba (焼きそば) are not made from buckwheat like their homonym, but from wheat flour.

These kuroi buta (黒い豚, black pork) come with a curry (カレー) flavor and are a treat! The noodles have a smooth texture and the sauce goes perfectly well with the dish. It has a lovely balance of sweetness and spice. Turmeric, cumin and basil were used to create the taste of the sauce. The final touch comes with a hint of soy sauce to adjust the flavor, and the dish is topped with seasoned pork and carrots.

For many, these yakisoba have a retro and rustic feel, making them nostalgic. It’s delightful in the summer, but great any time of the year. Enjoy each of the noodles while you have some left!

Yokohama Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen

Cooking Time: 3 minutes
Yokohama Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen

Yokohama, famous for its Chinatown, harbor, and being Tokyo’s neighbor. That’s also where they have developed their own tonkotsu-style ramen. Originally from Kyushu, the dish has now a few variations, and we’re all for it!

Tonkotsu is a pork bone broth based ramen known for having a rich flavor. The Yokohama version is often called iekei ramen (家系ラーメン, home-style ramen) and dates back to 1974, when a former truck driver, Mr Yoshimura wanted to give this classic dish his own twist. The cup ramen consists of thick noodles and a stock that mixes the creamy tonkotsu with soy sauce (shoyu).

This cup ramen comes with menma, spinach, and green onions. The noodles are crispy with a small soft touch. There is a mellow taste to it and fragrant aroma. For a tonkotsu ramen, it is quite light and easy to eat. The saltiness is just right, and any leftover soup goes perfectly well with a little rice!
